ULTRA-DYNE PRO DSP9024
If the Peak Limiter is enabled, the ULTRAMIZER will additionally attempt to raise the output gain to the point that
the Peak Limiter also realizes an effective level attenuation corresponding to the ULTRAMIZER Process parameter.
ULTRAMIZER RANGE
The ULTRAMIZER Range parameter determines the range in dB over which the ULTRAMIZER should be active.
This permits fade-outs and brief program pauses to be excluded from the ULTRAMIZER's loudness optimization.
3.6 Peak Limiter section
The Peak Limiter provides the option of limiting the maximum level of the ULTRA-DYNE PRO's output indepen-
dently of all other control functions. It was designed for use in conjunction with the Compressor section.
Downstream equipment can thus be protected from signal peaks, short-term overloads and overmodulation
(transmitters, etc.) regardless of their function.

Fig. 3.3: The Peak Limiter function
This diagram shows the characteristic of the Peak Limiter. The bold line represents the output signal, while the
input signal is shown by the dashed line above it. The areas between the curves represent the degree of
signal attenuation. With extremely short release times, the Peak Limiter responds like a clipper and restricts
the gain to the Threshold. Select a longer release time for a more natural and homogeneous limiting character-
istic.
The available ULTRA-DYNE PRO Peak Limiter parameters are the Threshold, to be found in the <PROCESS>
menu, and the release time in the <IN/OUT> menu of setup level 2. The following definitions describe the
parameters in greater detail:
Peak Limiter Threshold:
This is the value at which the Peak Limiter begins to attenuate the signal.
Peak Limiter Release Time:
When the signal falls below the Limiter Threshold, the gain reduction is returned to zero. The release time
determines the speed at which the signal is returned to its original level.
3.6.1 Basic settings of the Peak Limiter section
Parameter Setting
Threshold 0 dB
Release Time 200 ms
Tab. 3.3: Basic settings of the Peak Limiter section
Use the Threshold parameter of the Peak Limiter to set a level that will protect downstream devices from
overload. If the LIM warning on the advanced level meter lights up frequently or continuously, reduce the
Threshold slowly toward the 0 dB position.
